HL Deb 27 June 1989 vol 509 c727WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Following Lord Trefgarne's Answer on 13th June (Official Report, col. 1416), whether they have made any representations to the government of Grenada concerning alleged brutality towards the "Grenada 17"; and what is the position concerning appeals against the death sentences passed on those prisoners.

Lord Glenarthur

We have not made any representations concerning this allegation to the government of Grenada. The hearing of the appeals of the fourteen persons sentenced to death started afresh in February 1989 following the death of the President of Grenada's Court of Appeal. The legal process is not expected to end in the near future.
