HL Deb 27 June 1989 vol 509 c730WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether persons at United States military bases in the United Kingdom are required to fill in community charge registration forms.

Lord Trefgarne

Under the terms of the Abolition of Domestic Rates etc. (Scotland) Act 1987 and the Local Government Finance Act 1988, members of United States Forces and other visiting forces, are exempt from the personal community charge. Members of United States forces who live in married quarters or in private accommodation off-base have, however, been asked to complete com munity charge registration forms stating their entitlement to exemption. Personnel living in single accommodation on base will not be required to fill in registration forms, but community charge registration officers will receive a certificate stating their numbers.
