HL Deb 23 June 1989 vol 509 c474WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What percentage of the area of the British Continental Shelf has now been surveyed to modern standards; and whether the area round Rockall is currently included as British Continental Shelf.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Energy (Baroness Hooper)

Approximately 70 per cent. of the United Kingdom Continental Shelf has been geologically surveyed to modern standards. The area out to 12 miles from the island of Rockall is UK territorial sea; beyond this an extensive area was designated in 1974 under the Continential Shelf Act 1964.
