HL Deb 19 June 1989 vol 509 cc118-9WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether British plutonium of civil origin exported to the United States of America has been used in nuclear warhead tests or production in that country.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Energy (Baroness Hooper)

The United States authorities have said that none of the plutonium exported prior to 1971 under the Mutual Defence Agreement has been used in weapons, and that this continues to be their policy. Subsequent exports of civil origin have been made under international safeguards for civil purposes.
