HL Deb 14 June 1989 vol 508 cc1506-7WA
Lord Gallacher

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When the review by the Health and Safety Executive to determine guidance in relation to diseases of animals which may present a hazard during occupational exposure is expected to be completed; and whether consultation is proposed by the Health and Safety Executive as part of this review.

Lord Young of Graffham

The Health and Safety Executive has established a task force on occupational zoonoses (i.e., diseases which may be transmissible from animals to man), which is undertaking a review in this area. In the first instance the task force is considering 12 possible occupational zoonoses including anthrax, bovine tuberculosis and leptospirosis. The review has only just commenced and a timetable for its completion has not yet been determined. As part of the review, HSE will undertake discussions with relevant organisations. If the noble Lord wishes to make representations on this subject on behalf of himself or any organisation, the HSE will be happy to receive them.
