HL Deb 07 June 1989 vol 508 cc932-3WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they have taken and are taking to elicit the considered response on alleged violations of human rights in Ethiopia which their representative asked for on 7th March at the 45th session of the Human Rights Commission in Geneva, and if no reply has yet been made, whether they will call in the Ethiopian Ambassador for this purpose.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Lord Glenarthur)

The Ethiopian Government no doubt took note of our statement at the UN Human Rights Commission on 7th March. We continue to take opportunities to raise with the Ethiopian Authorities our concerns about human rights.
