HC Deb 06 June 1989 vol 154 cc124-5W
Mr. David Howell

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the current policy of Her Majesty's Government in relation to service during the Korean war counting towards war service pensions; and whether he has any plans to review it.

Mr. Neubert

Pensions awarded under the scheme for the armed forces do not distinguish between war service and other periods of service. For those personnel of the armed forces who qualify for an award of pension based on length of service given, any service during the Korean war would count on an equal footing with other periods. There are no plans for a review. Those suffering disability as a result of injury received during the Korean war may, however, be eligible for the award of pension under the war pensions scheme administered by the Department of Social Security, without regard to the length of service given.
