HC Deb 06 June 1989 vol 154 cc21-2W
Mr. Alison

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will express the salary received by a primary school teacher at the top of scale 2 in 1973–74 in current day's prices; and what salary a primary school deputy head receives at the present day.

Mrs. Rumbold

A teacher with a good honours degree at the top of scale two in 1973–74 would have received a basic salary of £2,699. This is equal to £13,358 at April 1989 prices. The salaries of deputy head teachers vary acording to the size of the school. The deputy head of a typical (group 4) primary school now earns £16,809.
