HC Deb 06 June 1989 vol 154 c55W
Sir John Farr

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the current situation relating to the development by the Commonwealth Development Corporation of schemes in Mozambique; and if he will give details of proposals relating to their financing.

Mr. Chris Patten

I authorised the Commonwealth Development Corporation to operate in Mozambique in November 1987.

The CDC is discussing a draft operating conditions agreement with the Government of the People's Republic of Mozambique which we hope will be signed shortly. The CDC are investigating a number of investment possibilities including projects for the development of tea, sugar, forestry, cashew nuts and citrus.
