HL Deb 05 June 1989 vol 508 c709WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What percentage of electricity now generated is derived from combined heat and power plants; and to what extent the present percentage is expected to rise over the next five and 10 years.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Energy (Baroness Hooper)

Approximately 3 per cent. of electricity in the United Kingdom is currently produced by combined heat and power plant, mainly in industry. The extent of future CHP investment cannot be assessed with any degree of accuracy.
