HC Deb 28 July 1989 vol 157 c1178W
Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will in future print Government publications on paper which does not require environmentally hazardous phosphates for its production; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

Government publications generally are handled by Her Majesty's Stationery Office, for which responsibility rests with my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The environmental impact of phosphates depends on the circumstances in which they are discharged. There is no widespread problem of environmental pollution by phosphates in this country.
