HC Deb 28 July 1989 vol 157 c1183W
Mr. Cox

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what recent discussions he has had with local authorities to encourage them to use the existing laws under the Control of Pollution Act to stop the playing of loud music in residential areas; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

[holding answer 24 July 1989]: This issue has not been discussed with local authorities recently. Noise nuisance in whatever form can be a most unwelcome intrusion into people's lives and a great source of annoyance. Local authorities have extensive powers under the Control of Pollution Act 1974 to control noise when necessary.
