§ Mr. ChopeA total of 370 organisations were approved under section 56 of the Housing Act 1980 before it was repealed. The Department carried out a monitoring exercise on the assured tenancy scheme last year, the results of which were placed in the Library. That exercise identified 76 approved bodies which were actually letting under assured tenancies. A substantial proportion of the accommodation provided is sheltered housing for the elderly—the Department does not have precise figures.
