Mr. Fatchett

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list the number of A and AS-level entrants by subject for 1987, 1988 and 1989.

The number of school leavers attempting A-level by subject for 1987 and 1988 are shown in the table. Figures for 1989 are not yet available. The first AS examinations were taken in 1989 and figures are not yet available. I will write to the hon. Member about the numbers of students in further education colleges attempting A-levels.
