Latest available information indicates that the proportion of widows under 45 remarrying in 1987 was approximately 10 per cent.Table 3 of the article by John Haskey, of OPCS, entitled "Widowhood, widowerhood and remarriage", published in "Population Trends" No. 30 (January 1983), shows that of those widows aged 40–44 who had remarried in 1980–81, 90 per cent. had done so within 10 years of their being widowed.
