HL Deb 27 July 1989 vol 510 cc1666-7WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the current use of the Stanford defence training area in Norfolk; what armed forces other than British are or have been trained there, and whether all training there is under the exclusive control and management of the Secretary of State for Defence.

Lord Trefgarne

Standford training area is intensively used by the army for both dry tactical training and live firing; over the last decade, the areas has been used annually for an average of approximately 340,000 man training days. In recent years, in addition to British troops, units from the American, Danish, Italian, Jamaican and Bermudan armed forces have made limited use of the area under the provisions of bilateral arrangements. All training is controlled by the Secretary of State for Defence.
