§ Mr. HanleyTo ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what criteria determine that examinations for competence are not considered a restriction to entry into a profession, with potentially undesirable consequences for competition, for dentists, doctors, solicitors, barristers, chartered accountants and stockbrokers, but are for members of FIMBRA who practice as independent financial advisers.
§ Mr. RedwoodFIMBRA has not introduced such a requirement, and so far as I am aware no such proposal has been discussed with the Director General of Fair Trading or his staff. No determination of the possible competitive effect of such a requirement has therefore been made. If such a requirement is introduced, it will in the first instance be for the director general to consider its effects on competition.
