HL Deb 26 July 1989 vol 510 c1552WA
Lord Norrie

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the likely effect of a reduction in saltmarsh, caused by a rise in sea levels, on redshank and other coastal breeding waders.

Lord Hesketh

The Department of the Environment has commissioned research to predict the effects of reductions in shore width caused by land claim on estuarine wading birds. A report on this research will be available shortly. The department intends to utilise and extend these studies to examine the impact of reductions in shore width from the seaward side, resulting from sea level rise.
