HC Deb 24 July 1989 vol 157 c440W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many pupils with five or more good GCEs left school last year at 16 years of age and did not continue in full-time education.

Mrs. Rumbold

In the academic year 1987–88, some 22,500 16-year-old pupils left school in England with five or more grades A-C in the GCSE (including any equivalent grades gained at O-level and CSE previously), with no intention of continuing their full-time education.
