To ask the Secretary of State for Health what reviews or surveys are being carried out or planned into community health councils in England and Wales; with what terms of reference; and if he will make a statement.

No such review is being carried out or planned by the Department. I understand that the Association of Community Health Councils in England and Wales has recently endorsed a report from a pane] of inquiry into the role and organisation of community health councils, and we will be considering the report carefully.
