HL Deb 24 July 1989 vol 510 cc1293-4WA
Lord Dormand of Easington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they intend to provide financial assistance to the British film industry.

The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (Lord Young of Graffham)

My department is already committed to providing support of £2 million a year through British Screen Finance Ltd. for the five years 1986–90. As I announced last Thursday 20th July 1989, I have decided that this should continue at the same level for a further three years until the end of 1993. I hope that this clear indication of government support for the British film industry will encourage industry to extend its own commitment to BSF.
