HC Deb 21 July 1989 vol 157 c417W
Mr. Sillars

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what he now treats as his main measure of money in the economy.

Mr. Lilley

[holding answer 20 July 1989]: The Government set a target range for narrow money MO and pays particular attention to it in assessing monetary conditions. The broad money aggregate M4 is also taken into account, though the interpretation of broad money, or liquidity, requires considerable judgment.
