HC Deb 20 July 1989 vol 157 cc320-1W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what has been the cost to his Department of providing transport for the Prime Minister on overseas visits in each year since 1985–86.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

The Ministry of Defence charges the Office of the Minister for the Civil Service for providing transport for the Prime Minister on official visits overseas at rates which are calculated in accordance with rules laid down by the Treasury. These rates are designed to ensure that no residual costs are carried on Defence Votes.
