To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he can indicate a starting date for the building of a new dental hospital in Edinburgh.

Mr. Rifkind

The nature of future dental hospital provision in Edinburgh depends initially on the Universities Funding Council's decision about the future of undergraduate dental education in Edinburgh. Once that decision is known, it will be for Lothian health board to progress appropriate hospital development in Edinburgh.
