To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Leeds, West of 6 July,Official Report, column 247, on income support totals; what is the imputed proportion of income support which his Department used in its calculation of the total amount payable to cover food costs under normal circumstances.

Income support is paid as a total amount intended to cover all normal day-to-day living expenses. There is no specific proportion included to cover individual items such as food.
