HC Deb 19 July 1989 vol 157 c192W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will give a breakdown by country of the names of those individuals who are the victims of human rights abuses and upon whose behalf he has made representations to the authorities in the country in question during the last six months; and if he will indicate, where appropriate those cases which have satisfactorily been resolved.

Mr. Eggar

In the last six months we have made representations on behalf of many individuals who are the victims of human rights abuse. Those representations have been made to the authorities in a wide range of countries and, in some instances, have helped to bring about a satisfactory resolution of the cases involved.

It would not be in the interests of current or future victims of abuse if we were to make public the details of our representations about individual cases.
