§ 121. Mr. SummersonTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many dockers have applied for redundancy following the abolition of the dock labour scheme; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. PortilloAt 14 July, 1,678 former registered dock workers had been made redundant following the abolition of the dock labour scheme. That is about 18.5 per cent. of the number on the register when the scheme ended. Almost all of these redundancies were either voluntary or in respect of companies which had gone into liquidation or otherwise ceased trading.
