§ Mr. CranTo ask the Minister for the Civil Service what resources have been committed for 1989–90 to training and management development within the Civil Service.
§ Mr. LuceThe planning of expenditure on training and development is a matter for Departments. On the basis of past trends, I would expect the total investment in training for the non-industrial Civil Service in the current year to be about £330 million. In addition, £1 million of challenge funding is being made available centrally to Departments to encourage them to undertake more management training and development at senior levels.
