HC Deb 13 July 1989 vol 156 cc640-1W
40. Mr. Raffan

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the number of people living in north Wales who cannot receive Welsh television channels.

Mr. Renton

I understand that about 15,650 people living in North Wales are unable to receive Welsh language television programmes because of mountainous terrain and shortage of frequencies. There are, however, plans to extend coverage to a further 1,000 people in the Gronant area.
