§ Mr. David NicholsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will list in theOfficial Report the various measures taken since 1986 to assist single parent families.
§ Mr. Peter LloydThe needs of lone parents were recognised in the social security reforms introduced last year. As well as the family premium, income support and housing benefit have a lone parent premium. In family credit the adult rate for married couples also applies to lone parents. From April families with children who receive income-related benefit had increases over and above those needed to restore their real value of 50p a child.
Unmarried mothers seeking maintenance will also benefit from changes made by the Family Law Reform Act.
