To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many individuals are in receipt of both the basic state pension and housing benefit.

§ Mr. Peter Lloyd
As at 31 May 1989, the number of claimants in receipt of housing benefit, with either the claimant or the claimant's partner, or both being in receipt of basic state pension, was 2.8 million.

Latest estimates indicate that the number of claimants in receipt of income support, with either the claimant or the claimant's partner, or both, being in receipt of basic state pension, is 1.61 million.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many individuals are in receipt of both the basic state pension and family credit.

§ Mr. Peter Lloyd
As at 31 May 1989 approximately 2,000 women aged 60 and over were in receipt of family credit. Information relating to individuals in receipt of both family credit and the basic state pension is not available.
