To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is his policy on the early construction of the Barnstaple downstream bridge and the completion of the bypass around Barnstaple.

My right hon. Friend will open the trunk road bypass of Barnstaple on 18 July. Devon county council is entirely responsible for the timing and priority accorded to its schemes for the Barnstaple downstream bridge and stage IV of the urban relief road.
