HL Deb 06 July 1989 vol 509 c1376WA
Baroness Burton of Coventry

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will report on the progress made at the meeting of the Permanent Commission of Eurocontrol on 4th July.

The Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)

At its meeting on 4th July, the Permanent Commission of Eurocontrol approved the implementation plan for the central flow management unit and agreed on Brussels as its location. The plan involves the progressive integration of air traffic flow management; the first phase will be in operation next spring, and the new unit is expected to be fully operational in 1993. It will greatly improve air traffic flow management, making more effective use of the available air traffic control capacity throughout Western Europe.
