§ Mr. ButlerTo ask the Secretary of State for Health, further to his answer of 27 June,Official Report, column 424, how he intends that district health authorities should be responsible for securing accident and emergency services in their districts where regional health authorities refuse any accident and emergency service provision for that district.
§ Mr. MellorAll district health authorities will be responsible for seeing that contracts are in place which ensure that their residents have access to comprehensive health services, including accident and emergency provision. It will be the responsibility of regional health authorities to monitor the performance of their districts to secure this objective. Regions' performance of this role (and others) will be monitored by the NHS management executive.
