22. Mr. Hind

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the fall in unemployment in Scotland over the last 12 months.

46. Mr. Riddick

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the underlying trend in unemployment in Scotland over the last two years; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lang

In Scotland, the number of unemployed claimants has fallen by 45,000 over the past 12 months and by almost 90,000 in the last two years. Unemployment has now fallen for 25 months in succession and is now at its lowest level for eight years.
