HC Deb 04 July 1989 vol 156 c124W
42. Miss Lestor

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what advice he has received from the National Curriculum Council about the primary curriculum.

50. Mr. Turner

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what advice he has received from the National Curriculum Council about mixed ability classes in primary schools.

Mrs. Rumbold

At my right hon. Friend's request, the National Curriculum Council has been considering the framework for the primary curriculum. The council published non-statutory guidance on 30 June and copies have been sent to all maintained schools, local education authorities and others. The organisation of classes is a matter for local discretion. The council's guidance explains that there is a variety of ways in which pupils may be grouped, depending on the circumstances in each case.
