HL Deb 03 July 1989 vol 509 cc1057-8WA
Lord Colnbrook

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in the event of the proposed merger between the Incorporated Society of Valuers and Auctioneers and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors being agreed by the members on 3rd July, they will advise Her Majesty The Queen to issue a revised royal charter to the combined body.

The Lord Privy Seal (Lord Belstead)

In the event of such a merger being agreed, it will be for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, in the first instance, to make the amendments to the institution's charter and by-laws which the merger would require and to submit them to the Privy Council for approval. It would not be in accordance with normal practice to anticipate the advice that the council would tender to Her Majesty.
