§ Mrs. Virginia BottomleyMany of the initiatives that we are taking in the environmental field do not require further legislation. They include steps to combat air pollution by cleaning up emissions from power station; and motor vehicles; implementing the programme of action arising from the second North sea conference; investing in research into greenhouse gases and their effects; and pressing both nationally and internationally for a reduction in the use of chlorofluorocarbons in order to protect the ozone layer.
