§ Mr. KirkwoodTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the future level of funding for research into air pollution.
Mr. JacksonThe Natural Environment Research Council plans to undertake research relevant to air pollution in the financial year 1989–90 at a level of some £1.1 million. This includes research on acid rain, fluorine and radionuclides. The NERC is helping organise the Glasgow international conference on acid deposition in 1990. Longer-term funding levels will be influenced by the trend of income from research commissioned by other Government Departments.
