§ The Attorney-GeneralThe Public Records Act 1958 makes provision for records to be retained or closed from access for periods longer than 30 years. Records are retained or closed from access in accordance with established criteria, which were set out in paragraphs 24–31 of the White Paper "Modern Public Records", Cmnd. 8531, March 1982.
