HL Deb 26 January 1989 vol 503 c867WA
Lord Mason of Barnlsey

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have given any consideration to the establishment of a national blood sample register and its feasibility and acceptability to the public and the Police Federation; and whether they have made any assessment of its potential to assist the fight against crime.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)

The Home Office forensic science service is considering the feasibility and value of a computerised record of data about blood samples received in its laboratories. There are however many technical, practical and ethical issues to be considered before a decision can be made.
