§ Mrs. Virginia BottomleyThe Department supports research into the global environment where this will provide a sound scientific basis for its policy and statutory responsibilities. Climate change and ozone layer depletion are currently the principal issues of global significance. Expenditure on these areas is expected to rise from £191,000 this year to about £950,000 in 1989–90.
