Mr. JacksonUniversity lecturers' pay has increased by 24 per cent. since 1986 and negotiations for a 1989–90 settlement are in progress. Government grant to universities is to be increased by about 5 per cent. in 1989–90 and it is for them to assess what pay increase they can afford.
