HC Deb 16 January 1989 vol 145 c16W
Mr. Bowis

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will make a statement on Royal Mail deliveries during December 1988.

Mr. Forth

The quality of the letter delivery service is an operational matter for the Post Office. I understand that despite the 24-hour closure of the Coventry sorting office as a result of a letter bomb and exceptionally high levels of staff sickness, almost all mail posted on or before the latest posting dates recommended by the Post Office was delivered before Christmas day. However, a less than full service was provided in the south-west London district as a result of unofficial industrial action in nine of the 20 sub-districts.
