HC Deb 16 January 1989 vol 145 cc10-1W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Lord President of the Council what was the cost to the public funds of the office and secretarial allowance for the last year for which figures were available; and what this is as a percentage of the total cost were each hon. Member to have claimed the full allowance.

Mr. Wakeham

The total expenditure from the House of Commons vote (class XX vote 8) during 1986–87 in respect of Members' office, secretarial and research expenses was £11,673,156.50. This figure represents just over 89 per cent. of the total cost had all hon. Members claimed the full allowance during the year.
