Dr. Marek

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what estimate he can make of the number of upland geese currently on the Falkland Islands; and what were the estimated numbers over the last decade.

Mr. Eggar

According to a 1987 report on geese grazing in the Falkland Islands, there are between 300,000 and 400,000 Upland geese on the Falkland Islands. In the late seventies, numbers were estimated at between 350,000 and 400,000.
