HL Deb 16 January 1989 vol 503 c100WA
Lord Harris of Greenwich

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether newly recruited British Transport Police officers, intended for work on the London Underground, are now trained at the Metropolitan Police training establishment at Hendon, as recommended in the report of the Steering Group on Crime on the Underground in 1986; and if not, why not.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)

All newly recruited BTP officers are trained at Home Office District Training Centres. The BTP Committee reconsidered this policy in the light of the report on crime on the Underground but decided against any change.

The committee will doubtless consider all options for meeting the new complement for L Division of 400 officers.
