To ask the Secretary of State for Health what figures he has available for the number of people over the age of 60 years who currently hold private medical insurance.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The general household survey 1986 (latest available data) suggests that among the population of Great Britain aged 65 and over 4 per cent. were covered by private medical insurance.
