HC Deb 21 February 1989 vol 147 cc586-7W
Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list for each of the past five years the number of deaths which have occurred at the Inverclyde royal hospital; what was the cause in each case; how many of these deaths were the subject of a fatal accident inquiry; what was the result in each case; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

[holding answer 15 February 1989]: The table shows the number of deaths recorded for eah year over the period. Mandatory or discretionary inquiries under the Fatal Accidents and Sudden Deaths Inquiry (Scotland) Act 1976 are known to have been held in respect of five deaths. Two of these related to accidents which occurred outwith the hospital and did not involve consideration of any treatment received. In each case a determination was issued by the sheriff. These are available on request from the sheriff clerk's office, Greenock.
