To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many Health Service personnel are trained by the private sector.

Precise figures are unavailable. It is known that while little basic professional training takes place in the private sector, there is a range of in-house post-registration training from which the NHS benefits if staff move back into the service. Representatives from the Department and the private sector have recently agreed to a joint working group with the aim of increasing the total stock of skilled staff available to both sectors.
